SEN  Health Development  Programme

The overall aim of the SEN Health Development programme is to increase access and participation of people in Tower Hamlets and the surrounding boroughs in particular those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in sports. The programme envisages achieving these aims through the following mechanisms:

1) Regular sports sessions in local venues

VCSA offer a range of sports options to people from disadvantaged communities to increase the sports offer in the borough. Sessions are delivered utilising facilities from local parks, leisure centres and school premises.

The objective is to ensure that the targeted groups have regular access to structured sports tailored to their needs. The sessions are delivered by qualified coaches and will not only focus on improving their health and well-being, but also providing fun and fulfilling activities that develops/ enhances skills and enables them to aspire for progression to other levels of sports.

Every Mondays from 10am to 12pm the SEN sports sessions is run by Vallance at the Mile End Sports Centre Gym and 12-1pm at the Urban Gym. The project is run in partnership with the Tower Hamlets Sports Development Team.

Every quarterly workshops are put on to cater for people with SEN which include Basic 1st Aid at work and Sports Leaders Award.

2) Annual SEN Sports Day and Sports Festivals

VCSA host an annual sports event for people with SEN as well as quarterly sports festivals. This gives people with SEN the opportunity to try out various sporting activities on the day.

Activities include track and field events, football and cricket competitions, Bocchia (wheelchair games) and tennis taster sessions.

Our community partners are also around on the day to highlight sporting services available in the local area and sign post people with SEN.
